Mother Road InRoads

InRoads is the adult education wing of Mother Road Theatre Company. InRoads has thus far successfully conducted workshops in which participants have been provided with the many tools required to flourish in New Mexico’s theatre and burgeoning film industry. InRoads recently produced an improvisation workshop, conducted by Alan Arkin, called Crossing the Chasm From Theatre to Life: A Forum in Improvisation. In this workshop, actors were invited to get back to the basics of performance in a significant manner. The Ongoing work of InRoads is to increase the professional expertise of artists in New Mexico as well as to develop the discernment and artistic appreciation of the audience at large.

Current and Future Offerings of Mother Road InRoads

Theatre Appreciation
A basic workshop that highlights the important events in theatre history, what makes theatre happened and how to be an educated, critical theatre patron.

Nuts & Bolts
This is an essential workshop for the actor just starting out in the business. The student will learn the “nuts & bolts” of auditioning for film, television, and theatre and “the business” of Acting.

The Nitty Gritty Series
This is a four-workshop series.
Workshop 1: In depth script and character analysis and how to make smarter, better choices as an actor.
Workshop 2: Full body acting focusing on movement and connection with the body.
Workshop 3: Voice training for actors. Speaking with the true voice, utilizing this valuable tool.
Workshop 4: Putting it all together - A scene study intensive utilizing all the tools of the Nitty Gritty series.

Crossing the Chasm From Theatre to Life
A Forum in Improvisation With Academy Award Winner Alan Arkin, Star of stage, screen and television. Alan Arkin, is a founding member of the famed Second City improvisational troupe where a performing arts method now used by acting programs nationwide was initially developed. He invites to this workshop anyone who wants to experiment, share, play and grow while practicing the art of improvisational theatre. “It’s not about being clever or amusing,” he says, “it’s about making a deeper connection with your creative force, surprising yourself and letting go.”
